Julie Colby

Paralegal

Julie has over thirty-five years of legal experience assisting workers injured on the job, specializing in filing longshore claims for pulmonary-related injuries. She has worked with the Office of Worker’s Compensation Program based in Boston, Massachusetts, calculating the benefits due to our clients and preparing cases for hearings before the federal office of administrative law judges.  She has helped hundreds of Maine workers to ensure they receive the disability benefits they deserve. She also has years of advocacy on behalf of widows who receive benefits as a result of their spouse’s death due to occupational exposure to asbestos. She is a lifetime support to these clients, ensuring the receipt of annual COLAs as well as keeping tabs on any claims which may need to be filed against bankrupt asbestos manufacturers. Julie is a registered agent on behalf of the IWLC to submit claims with the national asbestos trusts, assisting Suzanne in wading through the process of proving our clients’ entitlement to benefits due to asbestos exposure in the workplace.

Julie began her legal career as a file clerk in 1985, going to school nights to obtain her paralegal degree. She is a member of the WILG paralegal association and participates in ongoing national CLEs on longshore and occupational disease issues.

Julie was born and raised in Maine and is most proud of her daughter who obtained her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She enjoys providing a loving home for rescue cats, gardening, nature photography and spending time with family and friends. Her quick wit and sense of humor keeps the office in good spirits.
